Protoshare has become my favorite tools when working remotely. Of all the wireframing tools I have used (and I have used a lot) it has the best communication and collaboration tools. On top of that, Protoshare is not just for wireframes and clickable prototypes, its great for getting Visual Design feedback too. Below I have posted a visual design mockup of a wireframe and the red push pins represent discussions and/ or ideas about what can change in the design. This makes getting feedback and collaborating with other members of the team VERY fun and easy. No longer do I have to take notes by hand when getting feedback via skype calls, no more drawn out feedback sessions using GoToMeeting, stakeholders can log in at any time and post comments using the red push pins to call out what area of the interface they are referring to. The wonderful thing about this, is that it sparks discussion and enables the collaboration process regardless of where the team members are located. I have been able to have feedback discussions that are not only documented for anyone to see, but are also presented in context to the wireframe or design… life is good.

For over 8 month in 2008 I had an experience that will last a lifetime. Exploring ethnographic research techniques, I embedded myself into the underground urban music scene in Los Angeles and follow around several independent artists and producers with my video camera rolling the whole time. It was an experience I will never forget, and after wards the mobile and iPhone product ideas flowed like water. Even though the product ideation and exploration of ethnographic research as a User Research methodology was the motivation, I have to admit, meeting and being involved in the lives of the individuals I followed was by far the most rewarding aspect of the project. There were times when it got very emotional listening to the stories, and when it was all said and done, I ended up learning more about my myself than I did about the subjects. After this process, I created the app Mic Check that can be found in the App Store.

Thomas Scott, son of NBA Laker Byron Scott, discusses is motivations and aspiration for seeking out a career in Urban Music.

I am in love with all these new online wireframing tools. No longer is the choice between In-Design, Vizio (yuck), Omni-Graffle, and Axure. Just google wireframing tools and you will see no less than 20 online applications. I tried them all!! I am realling liking iPlotz, as its allowing me to easily visualize and prototype new features for my iPhone app, Mic Check. The high fidelity is a plus becuase I really feel like I know what the interface will look like. Some may prefer lower fidelity at this stage, but I’m having fun. I just started importing all the graphics individually, so now I am litterally moving things around like I was in Photoshop. This is fun. I also liked ForeUI, Balsamiq, and Gliffy. iPlotz still needs a few things (like input fields and drop down menus that work rather just be non interactive static images) to make it replace Axure. Otherwise its an amazing tool at the price. There is even a photoshop replacement built in that just blew my mind away. Also there is a built in project management tool, which has delayed my buying a 5pm or Basecamp subscription!

Recently, I had the opportunity to navigate iTunes Connect and the process to add my first application, Mic Check to the App Store. Before showing screenshots, here are a couple of key takeaways that you should have ready to go before going through the process of adding your application:

1) Have a description of your iPhone App ready to go.

2) Have at least 4 high quality screenshots in jpg format that are 320 Width x 480 Height. This is a very specific requirement from Apple.

3) Think about how you are going to provide support for your app. Are you going to use a unique email, like support@beatsandbars.com, or are you going to use a web 2.0 service like Get Satisfaction.com? I ended using Get Satisfaction, it seemed the best way to handle where I am now and future growth.

Not having these items in place a head of time, will slow the process down. I had #2 & #3 ready, but writing #1 on the fly took a little time, and should be thought out ahead of time. Of cousre you can always go back and edit, but better to be prepared out the gate.

Without further adoo, here are some screenshots:
